Best Essential Oils for the Summer Sun

We all know how important it is to keep our skin protected during summer months when the heat is high and the chance for sunburn is more likely.  Even though we may lather on sunscreen religiously, there still are those times that you still manage to get a sunburn. Here are a few tips on how to expedite the healing process using products in our Sizzling Summer Sale.

1. Cool Down

This may seem like a no brainer, but the first step should be to cool down the burn. Our Peppermint Refreshing Mist is a great way to cool down after being outside in the heat (you can store this in the refrigerator for increased shelf life and better results). Take a cool shower or bath to help pull the heat out of the skin.

2. Moisturize Your Skin

After showering, apply a moisturizer (like our Natural Base Lotion, or Cedarwood + Grapefruit Body Oil).  You can add Lavender to your lotion if you would like some extra soothing benefits.

3. Burn Maintenance

The healing process takes time after getting a sunburn, and you may not even notice the full scope of the burn until up to 24 hours after exposure. Use Aloe Vera as a carrier oil for Lavender or Peppermint to help cool and soothe the burn. 

 

Note: Our Lavender Calming Mist is actually a great option to use regularly on sunburns. It is milder than the Lavender Essential Oil, which makes it great to use for kiddos.

Remember to drink lots of water if you are sunburned. If you were outside long enough to get burned, you likely are dehydrated! Proper Hydration will also benefit your skin!
