Improving Your Quality Of Sleep Naturally

There’s likely no more frustrating a sight than that of the shadowy bedroom ceiling at 2 a.m – for the third night in a row. Some of us spend hours gazing in that general direction, waiting, wishing, and desperately willing our bodies to finally drop into blessed slumber. A good night’s sleep, in fact, is pretty much at the core of your physical, psychological and spiritual health. So when you don’t get one, you really are missing out on more than just a few zzz’s.

A pharmaceutical sleep just isn’t the same as a natural one. Besides the risk of dependency, when you rely on chemical aids, you are still forced to spend a good chunk of time waiting for them to kick in, and you wake up the next morning feeling groggy, dull and drugged. But there is a natural way to encourage a good night’s sleep – using the positive aromatherapy power of essential oils. Many people find that developing an evening routine using essential oil aromatherapy helps them to relax, release tension, and prepare their body for a good solid night’s sleep – without the pills.

Which essential oils support better sleep?

Singles:

  • Lavender: A sweet and woody spice that has natural power to support your body in better sleep.
  • Roman Chamomile: A mellow vanilla-and-apple scent to calm overstimulation and release stress.
  • Cedarwood: A warm, earthy, live-wood scent that is both grounding and calming.
  • Marjoram: Herbal power to help you release deeply held stress and balance your mood.
  • Bergamot: A sweet and mellow citrus that creates a warm energy and restful ambiance.
  • Vetiver: A delicate perfumed-wood scent that works to ground and calm physical and emotional angst.
  • Frankincense: An ancient remedy that helps to release stress, relax your mind, and calm your emotions

Blends:

  • Restful Sleep: A combination of the best essential oils for sleep – carefully crafted to help you unwind, relax, and release tension so that when the sun rises, you can too.
  • Kids Sleep Well: A natural solution to change a restless night into a relaxing one. Apply it to the chest and back and massage to help resistant kids move into a more restful state.
  • De-Stress: Create a habit of self-care with this blend of Sweet Orange, a twist of Lime, warm Coriander, grounding Cedarwood, and a hint of vanilla. Use to overcome nervous fatigue, to balance external pressure, and to soothe emotional stress.

How do I use them?

Topically: Choose any combination of recommended oils and dilute appropriately with a carrier oil. Before bedtime apply to the skin – especially to the bottoms of feet, over chest and back, across the neck, and along inside of wrists. Rub on hands and cup over your nose and mouth as you climb into bed. Breathe deeply for several minutes.
Diffusing: Some people choose to run their diffuser all night, but we recommend misting for a few hours as you get ready for bed. If your diffuser has a timer, set it to shut off an hour or two after you’ve fallen asleep. This way, your body can process the essential oils and you can wake up fresh, rested, and ready to face the day. If staying asleep all night is an issue, choose a diffuser that has an intermittent option for misting to better control your exposure to the essential oils.

More Tips for better sleep.

  • Power down all screens 30 minutes before going to sleep. Try reading with a small lamp to limit overstimulation and you body’s exposure to bright light.
  • Don’t eat anything heavy or spicy close to bedtime – light snacks only! Enjoy a relaxing cup of herbal tea or hot milk at bedtime.
  • If you find your mind traveling in circles as you try to fall asleep, try listening to a guided meditation to help you relax and unwind.

  1. I have a question for you…
I had a stroke back in February and I’m dealing with achiness throughout
my body and i believe its from the drugs they have me on. Is there any
thing I can do to help myself with this situation as far as oils are concerned?
    Thanks

    • Hi Rose, thanks for the comment!

I am sorry to hear about your condition. Essential oils are often used to help manage different aches and pains related to various causes. We do have a couple of very effective and popular options that people are using to get relief.

      Here are the links:
      https://realoil.com/muscle-soothe-essential-oil-blend
      https://realoil.com/re-align-essential-oil-blend
      https://realoil.com/deep-relief-silver-rub

The Muscle Soothe blend is the same formulation of oils that is found in our Silver Rub and is more minty of a smell. The Re-Align does not have any minty oils in it. All of these products are great, but I have found that if you tried one and it wasn’t quite working for you, then it is well worth returning it to try the other blend, as it likely will do the trick for you. Everyone reacts a little differently to essential oils, which is why it is important to have more than one option available.

You may find this article very helpful as a new essential oil user: https://realoil.com/how-to-dilute-essential-oils

The oils are so concentrated, they need to be diluted with a carrier oil prior to applying topically. We hope that you can get some relief as you incorporate essential oils into your home.

      Best,

      Jared

  2. I have used Restful Sleep for 6 months or so now. It really is helpful to insure a good nights sleep and the scents are awesome! I dot a drop or two on the fitted sheet up close to the corner of the bed nearest my face, and I fall asleep quickly and stay that way all night. I love the lingering scent in my room from the frequent use. I have linen sheets, (another wonderful sleep aid), and the oil does not stain them or hurt them in any way. I have used it on cotton too with the same harmless result. I can’t wait to try the De-Stress; it sounds wonderful!
